Welcome to CWC – CrossWord Creator.
This is version 1.9.6 of the product. This release is intended to
reintroduce CWC to the App Store and confirm the changes to the back end. See below
for more details.
For versions 1.9.x, we did the following:
- added a feature to allow users to paste text from websites or other sources into the “words only” interface
- revised the back end to improve reliability
- revised the algorithms to handle crosswords as large as 25×25
- fixed issues such as a bias for
S/ED/ING/TION endings in words
- now topping up limits daily (weekly for education providers) – no more buying crosswords!
- rebuilt for iOS 15, revamping the mobile interface in the process
- updated the word lists to more relevant words while retaining, or even increasing, the original word counts
- for on-line added:
- “words-only” interface (student)
- current size
- number of entries
- two-letter entries
- light / dark cells
- “unchecked” cells (professional)
- interface to cycle through previous puzzles and solutions (professional)
- resubmit 4× or 9× (professional)
For versions 2+, we intend to do the following:
- updating the videos
- investigating whether a template can be developed for LibreOffice
- supporting UTF-8 encoding for building crosswords from a user-defined list of words (the 🌟 one)
For versions 3+, we intend to do the following:
- allowing users to upload their own word lists (we intend to support UTF-8 encoding which opens up a lot of capabilities)
